Rumi & The Art of Turning:
A New Year’s Celebration
Join us we look at short poems by the mystical poet, Jelaluddin Rumi, that explore “the dance” of surrender. As we delve into the art of Rumi’s poetry—in celebration of the end of a year and the beginning of a new one—we will also look at our own personal desires and turnings. Come celebrate the New Year with us!

A Quiet Day in the Quiet Garden
Join us at the beginning of the month as we take time to slow the pace and enjoy a quiet place to pause and let our bodies and minds rest and our hearts awaken. The in between time is intentionally unstructured to allow each person time and space to do what is most nurturing whether is it expressing with creative materials, reflecting, praying or meditating in the outdoor chapel or the labyrinth garden, enjoying one of the many gardens and natural area, reading or even napping.

Micro-finance and Dining for Women Lunch Study Group
This is a joint offering between The Servant Leadership School and Healing Ground that continues to explore micro-finance options locally and globally. The even months focus on local projects and the odd months on Dining for Women, a national group that supports micro-finance projects abroad. Anyone is invited to drop in and learn more. Each month we invite participants to make a contribution equal to (or greater) than they would have spent on lunch as a means of building our micro-financing capital.

The Wisdom of Jesus and the Enneagram: An Enneagram Wisdom Circle
The teachings of Jesus are being cast in a new light by writers such as Cynthia Bourgeault (The Wisdom Jesus, 2008), Marcus Borg (Jesus, 2006), and Brian McLaren (The Secret Message of Jesus, 2006). They tell us about Jesus as a Wisdom teacher of The Way—the way we should live our everyday, ordinary lives. Jesus mostly taught in parables—stories that contained within them different levels of meaning addressing both those who frequently turned a deaf ear as well as those “with ears to hear” the deeper teaching. Clarence Thompson’s Parables and the Enneagram (1996) offers a good organizer for exploring the meaning of the parables of Jesus as they inform the nine Enneagram types. We will augment Thompson’s work with gleanings from other contemporary writers as we explore what it means to live into our gifts as followers of The Way.
Led by Dee Irwin, Enneagram teacher, spiritual director and retreat leader.
Every other Wednesday, 9-11:30am, January 5 - April 27.
Suggested donation: $100

The Enneagram and God’s Dream of a Transformed World: An Enneagram Wisdom Circle
The Enneagram can be a wonderful spiritual tool for helping us rediscover our Essence or True Self, the self that God created us to be. The good news is that when we do, two blessings occur: one in the ways in which our own lives are enriched and enlivened, the other in the gifts we gladly share with a world that is hungry to receive them. The focus of this Wisdom Circle is twofold: 1) to explore the ways in which the Enneagram symbol itself guides us in gaining clarity to solve problems and envision new possibilities in our individual and corporate lives; and 2) how the individual Enneagram Types use the Direction of Integration to move into healthier relationships with ourselves, each other and God. The net result is that as we discover the fruits of the spirit in our own lives, the world also benefits. Are you ready to help bring about God’s Dream for a transformed world?
Led by Dee Irwin, Enneagram teacher, spiritual director, retreat leader, and faculty member of the Servant Leadership School of Greensboro.
Thursdays 6:30-8:30pm, 8 weeks, January 19–March 9. Classes meet in The Café at 211 W. Fisher Ave.
Suggested donation: $100

Winter’s Path: Returning Home SoulCollage® Workshop
“Winter is the time for comfort. It is the time for home." Edith Sitwell
Winter is a time for reflection and inward contemplation. Our deepest memories of family and their continuing influence are rich ground for creating a Community card for your SoulCollage® deck. Who is in your Community suit? Bring photos of people from your early life and a picture of yourself before the age of ten. We will use movement, writing, and guided imagery to explore the important people in our youth, and make Community cards to represent them.
Led by Kim Goldstein, a Licensed Professional Counselor in private practice and a collage and jewelry artist and Donna Anthony, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a fabric assemblage artist and pastel artist. Donna and Kim completed the facilitator training for SoulCollage®, led by Seena Frost, in 2008.

Coming to God through Stories: Dwelling in Stories that Change our Lives
This workshop introduces short teaching stories from a variety of faith traditions, East and West. We shall approach the stories in such a way that
- we are all the characters in the story – heroes, heroines, villains and supporting players,
- the stories are taking place here, now and always,
- the stories are pointing to the Great Mystery – our Ever-present Origin and Goal, and
- the stories are calling us to come to life more fully so we can serve life with more love and compassion, joy and peace.
Led by John Sullivan, local author and Powell Emeritus Professor of Philosophy at Elon University where he taught for 36 years. He is the author of The Spiral of the Seasons: Welcoming the Gifts of Later Life.
Friday, February 5 from 10am – 4pm
Suggested donation: $45 -$55 with lunch included

Compassionate Listening: Healing Our World from the Inside Out
How do we look at those who differ from us and see our shared humanity? Strengthen our capacity to connect with the humanity of each person whose path we cross, whether or not we share the same values and behaviors. Opportunities for building bridges emerge as we move beyond a mindset that dehumanizes the ‘other’, seeking instead to listen, to feel compassion for, and to see ourselves in the ‘other’ and the ‘other’ in ourselves. Come explore Compassionate Listening as an act of personal, social and spiritual transformation.
Led by Jan Hutton, MSW, a certified Compassionate Listening facilitator, who believes in supporting wholeness in each human being. Over the last 38 years, she has served as a community organizer, social worker in hospice and hospital settings, a meditation teacher, and she hopes, a ‘kind’ person.
Saturday, March 5 from 9am – 5pm
Suggested donation: $45 – 85. Beverages and dessert provided. Bring a dish to share.

A New Earth Study Group
This highly interactive study group, based on Eckhart Tolle’s book, A New Earth, will encourage participants to look at their life “purpose.” Experiential processes will engage the group so that issues such as: how we make ourselves happy or not; how to get our minds unstuck; managing our ego so it becomes a more effective servant; practicing presence and more will be offered in a safe and supportive learning environment.
Led by Kevin Haggerty, teacher, counselor, executive coach, consultant for former Farr Associates. Kevin’s life goal is to help people understand that their purpose in life is to be happy through self-awareness and to share that happiness with their families, friends and community. For further information, call Kevin at (336) 509-5777.
Six Monday Evenings 7-9:30pm beginning March 21 and ending April 25.
